What’s so sad about this article is that even in bad economic times, people still go to community college for retraining or to boost their skills for a better job or to transfer to a 4 yr school. Now the sad part of all this is that people who wanted to register for classes at the Community college, had to be turned away because all the classes were filled up and their was no space left. It’s sad because people were lazy in registering late and didn’t see the tea leaves that in this rough economy, people are heading back to college and that Community colleges are going to bear the brunt of laid off workers and and people looking to expand their skills for a better job market. They could have at least registered early in the summer and the state should have foreseen this happening and now this has come to fruition.
So now this is a first time I have ever heard that a community college in the state of Connecticut that had to turn away people because they were full and over capacity. Tunxis Community college in Farmington, Ct became the first Community college that I know of that had to turn people away for the the first time because classes were filled up and their was no space left. I even told my state legislator about this and this shocked him that this happened and this is a result of a bad economy and in times when more and more people are heading back to college. This is the first time where community college are going to be at maxed capacity and that space is going to a big issue for the community colleges. What’s even far worse in Connecticut is that, the community colleges had professors who took the deal that Governor Rell offered to them and retired early. So now Community colleges are short on Professors and as a result, they have teacher shortages and maxed out classrooms and campus.
This is why I wonder where the heck is that so called stimulus that Mr Obama and the Democrats keep harping about. I wonder where’s the stimulus for the Community Colleges and universities in General. You gotta wonder when are the community colleges and the two yr colleges are going to get their stimulus check from Mr Obama.
